Vanya Darlene Tisdale, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, April 17, 2025. She was born on April 4, 1960, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to Edward Tisdale and the late Blondell Powell.

Educated in Bridgeport, Vanya graduated from Kolbe Cathedral High School in 1978. Shortly after graduation, she proudly enlisted in the United States Army, beginning her journey at Ft. Hood, Texas for basic training.

Vanya devoted 28 honorable years to serving her country. As a communications specialist in the U.S. Army, she was stationed in Germany, Hawaii, and Maryland. Following her active-duty service, she continued her commitment to her nation through the New Jersey National Guard, where she was activated in 1990 to serve in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia. After completing her military career, she transitioned into federal service, working as a Telecommunications Specialist for the Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) NJ Field Division until retirement in 2021.

Van - as she was lovingly known - was the heart and soul of our family, a matriarch with unwavering support and light. She held us together with her quiet strength, fierce devotion, and boundless love. Her wisdom, compassion, and her unforgettable, infectious smile that could light up any room will be forever missed.

Vanya was preceded in death by Mother Blondell; sisters, Gayle, Adrienne and Stephanie.

Vanya is survived by son, Tyrone; granddaughters, Ciarra and McKenna; grandsons, Taevon, Anthony, Harley and Jayden; Father, Edward (Wilhemena); sisters, Kietta and Alexis; nephews, nieces, cousins, and countless cherished friends.

A few near and dear to her include: Toreatha Chambers, Arlene Chambers Mohammad, Calvin Chambers, Khalif Chambers, Alicia Seaborn, and Veronica Miller, and a host of other special confidants.

Her family and friends will always remember Vanya for her unwavering strength and compassionate nature. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Vanya's legacy will live on through the love and memories she shared with those lucky enough to have known her.
