Nelson Henry Burkett

Nelson Henry Burkett, "Jack", 84, of Hagerstown, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2022 at Meritus Medical Center. Born on March 8, 1938, he was the son of the late John William Burkett and Alice (Daley) Burkett.

He attended Hagerstown High School and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Jack was employed at the Western Maryland Railroad, later retiring from Fort Ritchie, Maryland. In his younger years, Jack enjoyed going to the racetrack and betting on the horses. Mr. Burkett had a passion for antiques and enjoyed going to auctions, especially his brother's.

Jack loved his fur babies: lap dog Bella "Bell-Bell" and cats "Tuffy", "Mr. Wilson" and "Miss Daisy". He was a very kind person and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Mr. Burkett is survived by his beloved companion of 35 years, Amy Carpenter Snyder; Three daughters: Kelli L. Meyer, Kimberly D. Abbate and Kristine D. Hughes (Jerry); Four grandchildren: Erica Stuby (Tim), Erin Taylor (Glenn), Dylan Burkett, and Jason Davis as well as great-granddaughters, Emilia Stuby and Jaida Davis and great-grandson Jaxon Davis. He is also survived by a brother, Harold Wise, Jr. (Lisa); a sister-in-law, Sheila Burkett as well a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta W. Burkett, Two brothers: Donald L. Burkett, Sr., Richard L. Burkett; a sister, Betty J. Burger.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 9, at 10:00 AM at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The family will receive friends an hour prior to service time. Interment will be at Benevola United Methodist Church Cemetery.
