Norma Frances Swanson

1923 — 2025

Frederick

A devoted follower of Christ, Norma Frances Swanson entered into the presence of the Lord on May 17, 2025. She was 101 years old. She lived a life rooted in faith, finding joy in prayer and strength in scripture.

Norma was born to Arnold and Besse Brown on October 24, 1923 in Blue Island, Illinois. As a child, she experienced the impact of The Great Depression, which created a precocious and self sufficient young lady. She excelled in the musical arts, specifically piano and voice.

Norma met her beloved husband, George C. Swanson, during their college and seminary years at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky, and they were married in 1947. They had one child, Dane Craig Swanson. Some of Norma’s most memorable years include the 25 years in which George was a Special Assistant to Dr. Billy Graham.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, Norma was the founder and president of Window to the World, Inc., a Bible-based values education program. A longtime teacher, author, and educator, Norma held positions in the U.S. Department of Education and the Bicentennial of the Constitution under President Ronald Reagan. In 2016, she co-authored and published a book entitled A Constitution is Born: A Brief History of the Constitution of the United States of America, Tracing the Hand of God.

Norma served as an active member of the Locust Valley Bible Church, enjoyed weekly Bible studies in her home, loved her garden club activities, attended Republican Women’s Club, and baked delicious goodies for her family and friends. She also loved spending time with her family, and sharing her faith in Christ with others.

Norma is survived by her son, Dane Swanson, and daughter-in-law, Karen, of St. Inigoes, Maryland. In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren, Dane Edward of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Lydia Grace of St. Inigoes, Maryland. She is also survived by her sister, June Jones; her sister-in-law, Connie Brown; her niece, Debbie Johnson and husband, The Honorable Stephen Johnson, all of Frederick, Maryland.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, George Swanson, her parents, Arnold and Besse Brown, and her younger brother, Arnold Brown.
