Norman Washington

Norman Melvin Washington “Norm”, age 77, passed from this life on April 26, 2026, at Heartfields Assisted Living in Frederick, Maryland. He formerly resided in Clarksburg, Maryland. Born on July 17, 1948, in the District of Columbia, he was the son of the late William Arthur Washington and Ruth Trueheart Washington. Norm was the youngest of four siblings. He is survived by brother, William James Washington. He was predeceased by sisters, Carrie Johnson and Ruth Turner Gilbert. Norm is survived by nieces and nephew, Caren Johnson, Tracy Washington Craig and Jesse Turner III. He was predeceased by nephew, Darin Turner.

Norm was adopted as a son/brother/uncle into the Leizear family almost 50 years ago. He enjoyed many family gatherings, trips to the beach and Las Vegas, and cruises in the Caribbean. He was predeceased by Frank Leizear Sr. and Glen Leizear. He is survived by Peggy Kluttz Leizear, Frank Leizear Jr. and Larry Leizear, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Norm enjoyed spending time with his close friends, Sandy Burke, Mickey Fedor and Buck Gillespie.

In 1970, Norm enlisted in the United States Army and served as a Military Policeman during the Vietnam War. He received an honorable discharge from the Army. Norm proudly served as a Montgomery County Police Officer for 34 years until his retirement.

Norm completed his bachelor’s degree. He was skilled at playing chess and pool. Norm was an avid reader and he liked watching sports, country and western movies, and TV shows. He was a member of the Montgomery County Police Alumni Association.

The Heartfields Assisted Living staff provided Norm with dedicated and compassionate care the past four years. He recently received support and comfort from the Frederick Health Hospice team.

In accordance with Norm’s wishes, there will be no public service. A private graveside service and inurnment will be held at a later date at Glade Cemetery in Walkersville, Maryland. Arrangements are being handled by Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., Frederick, Maryland.
