Patricia Madeline Miller

Ms. Patricia Madeline Miller (née Shern), also lovingly known to friends and family as Patsy or Pat-Pat, 81, of Frederick, Maryland, was embraced by the arms of her savior and entered eternal rest on Saturday, August 16, 2025, after a strongly fought battle against an extended illness.

Pat-Pat was born on January 13, 1944, in Frederick, Maryland, to the late Charles and Marqueze (Williams) Shern. She was born into a very loving and beautiful family of 8 children. Patricia received her education in the Frederick County Public School system. Soon after completing her schooling, she began exploring, making her way to Florida. There, she met her first husband Porter R. Baker, and they welcomed their son, Porter R. Baker Jr. Eventually, she would make her way to California where she met her second husband Francis T. Miller, and welcomed her second son, Ivan T. Miller. She loved her two boys more than words could express, and took pride and honor in being their mother. She also took immense joy in being a mother figure to her stepchildren, as well as many others that she enveloped in the love that she so effortlessly exuded. After many years in California, Pat-Pat returned home to Frederick, to begin the next chapter of her life and enjoy time with her family and so many loved ones and friends.

Her career path afforded her the opportunity to work in healthcare, mass transit, as well as retail; but her most treasured career path was always childcare. Pat-Pat adored the time she spent attending family gatherings; participating in hobbies like fishing, attending bingo and going to the casino to name a few. She was also a dedicated member of St John's Bible Fellowship Church of Frederick, serving as a member of the Mother Board and allowing God to use her gift of comfort to bless others. Pat-Pat’s existence was dedicated to God and her family, especially children. No one was a stranger in her presence; she was truly a blessing to all that she met. Pat-Pat will be deeply missed by all that she has touched.

Pat-Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Shern and Marqueze Shern (née Williams); two brothers, Charles “Butch” Shern and Gerald “Jack Rabbit” Shern; three sisters, Ida Dorsey, Dorothea Swaizer and Janice Dorsey; and one son, Corporal Ivan Miller.

Surviving to continue to uplift her memory are her son Porter Baker, Jr.; Grandchildren-Dana Evans (Darrell), Porter Baker, III, Dominique Hangan (Ali), Charles Baker, Taylor Miller and Kierra Brown; Great-Grandchildren- Nyjha Baker, Ivan Baker, Porter Baker IV, Darrell Evans, Jr., Amaya Bouldin, Cory Baker, Naleisja Baker, Emani Miller & Gianna Miller; Siblings-Julius Shern (Linda) and Rhonda Irvins; as well as enumerable nieces, nephews and other family & friends.
