Paul Norman Beatty

Paul Norman Beatty, age 85, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025 after a long, courageous battle with Parkinson's disease and dementia. Born on December 2, 1939 in Huntingdon, Pa., Paul was the youngest child of 7 born to Oscar and Eva (Stitt) Beatty of Shirleysburg and later Mount Union, Pa.

Paul graduated from Captain Jack High School in 1957. He continued to work locally until 1963 when he and his wife Raenell (Prough) were married. Once married, they moved to Langley Park, MD and three days later Paul began his 43 year government career with the Food and Drug Administration, Health and Human Services, and the National Institutes of Health as a computer specialist. Eventually, Paul and Raenell moved the family to Mount Airy, MD. During this time, he continued his education at Montgomery College and was the former president of the Carroll County NARFE chapter.

Paul was a devoted family man often planning various family trips to New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ocean City, and the Outer Banks, NC. He was the family baker and chef for many holiday meals. His sugar cookies were the best around!

As his disease progressed, both Paul and Raenell became residents of Spring Arbor Senior Living in Frederick, MD. He still continued to look his fashionable best and project his "Mr. President" image!

Paul is survived by his wife Raenell of 62 years, his daughter Stacie Jones and husband Ross, his son Eric and wife Julie, and grandchildren Ray (RJ) Jones, Parker Beatty, and Piper Beatty. He is also survived by his “little sisters,” nieces Autumn and Karen who were raised in the Mount Union family home. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Lena, Blain, Genevieve, Ray, Dale, and Maxine. Paul is also preceded in death by his in-laws, Sam and Helen Prough.

A "Celebration of Life" service will be held Saturday, August 16th at 2:00 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the start of the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Paul Beatty's name to The Michael J. Fox Foundation at www.michaeljfox.org to support further research to eradicate Parkinson's disease. Interment will be at a later date in Mount Union, Pa.
