Paul C. Umberger, Jr., (Podgie), went to his Heavenly Reward on May 18, 2025. He was the husband of Julia Umberger. Born on April 1, 1950, he was the son of Paul C. Umberger, Sr., and Lenore E. (Sutphin) Umberger.
From the time he was young, Paul wanted to farm and run heavy equipment and he accomplished both. He made a living operating heavy equipment and eventually started his own business. All who worked with him were impressed with his ability and his care to get everything exactly right. He had a lifelong passion for farming and loved talking to other farmers, buying his own farm in 1999. To everyone who knew him Paul was a sweet gentle soul who never met a person he didn’t like. Paul saw the good in everyone and wanted everyone he met to find the peace and assurance of knowing Jesus as Lord and Savior. He had a knack for saying just the right thing at the right time and you always left him feeling better than when you came.
In addition to his wife, Julia, Paul is survived by his children: Paul (Chip) Umberger III and Donna, Bryan Umberger and Mishale, Eustacia Clabaugh and Jimmy, Jonathan Tregoning and Brandie; grandchildren: Chelsea Noffsinger and Jacob, Caitlin Umberger, Tyler Umberger, Corell Powers and Dakota, Pearl Rubin and Madison, Elizabeth Clabaugh, Reesa Mahoney and Cody, James Clabaugh, Hannah Tregoning, as well as many great-grandchildren that were all a treasure to him. Also surviving him are: sister, Brenda Umberger, a brother, Larry Umberger, a niece Stacy Umberger and a nephew Michael Umberger and wife Tracy. He will also be missed by dear friends Larry Shenk and Winnie Umberger Ward. Paul’s parents, Paul C. Umberger Sr. and Lenore Umberger, and his sisters Sharon and Lavon Umberger preceded him in death and are now welcoming him in Heaven.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, June 3, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 4, at 11:00 AM at Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Knoxville, with a visitation an hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Brownsville Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
