Paula Camuti

Paula Camuti, 83, of Mt. Airy, Md, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024. 

Born March 10, 1941, in Astoria, Burrough of Queens, New York City, she was the wife of William “Bill” Paul Camuti whom she was married to for 56 years until his death on December 26, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Frederick Henry Jaep, Sr. and Dorothy Ennis Jaep of Vermont. Paula and Bill traveled extensively with the Navy and federal government, living on assignment in India and Pretoria, South Africa. They moved to Mt. Airy in 1970.

In addition to raising five children Paula was a substitute teacher, girl scout leader, and active member of her church. Paula worked for CAIC Insurance in Rockville for many years before retiring to care for her grandchildren.

Paula was an active member of the Mt. Airy community and a longtime officer of the Mt. Airy Auxiliary to the Fire Department. She was inducted into the Mt. Airy Hall of Fame in 2018. She received the 2019 Mt. Airy Volunteer of the Year award. 

Paula thoroughly enjoyed her aquatic classes at Health Unlimited until shortly before her death. She loved animals and was working for a pet sitting company in the recent year. Paula was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, the beach and hosting time with her family. Paula was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all who knew her and loved her. 

She is survived by her five children, Paula Christine “Tina” Kimmell (Jack) of Stafford, VA, Andrew Mark Camuti (Alice) of Cookeville, TN, Kendall Alan Camuti, Sr. (Lori) of Fairfield, PA, Elizabeth Anne Camuti (Lee) of Mt. Airy, MD and Catherine Marie Thren (Jim) of Frederick, MD. She is survived by her ten grandchildren, Kendall (Lisa), Adrian, Kristopher, Ashlynne (Chris), Alex (Rochelle), Jimmy (Kelsey), Tyler, Jordan, Jacob and Alanna. Seven great grandchildren, Taylor, Matthew, Cameron, Chase, Cooper, Colton, and Coraleigh. Additionally, she is survived by one nephew, Ricky Jaep, of Louisiana. 

In addition to her parents and spouse, Paula was preceded in death by her brother Frederick Henry Jaep, II of Huntsville, AL. 

The family will receive friends from 10 AM-12 PM on Saturday, July 6, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy where a memorial service will begin at 12 Noon.
