Pauline Frances Strobel

Pauline Frances Strobel, née Dyer, 88, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away on September 9, 2026. The daughter of Kenneth and Virginia Dyer, Pauline was born at home in Westbrook, Maine. Shortly thereafter, her family relocated to Montgomery County, Maryland, where she Grew up and met her future husband.

Pauline was a devoted wife to her husband, Clifford “Cliff” Strobel, for more than 68 years until his passing in 2024. Together, they raised their family and shared 68 years of life’s joys and challenges. In 1996, Pauline and Cliff moved to Rohrersville, Maryland, where they enjoyed their retirement years before later settling in Frederick.

Pauline was the proud mother of eight children: Shari Strobel (Glenn Lawyer) of Georgia; Donald Strobel (Dana Dudley) of Middletown; Terri Strobel of Germantown; Michael David Strobel; Lisa Mahoney of Hagerstown; Scott Strobel (Lisa Strobel) of Keymar; Sean Strobel of Williamsport; and Ashleigh Davis (Adam Davis) of Walkersville. She was also blessed with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff; her parents, Kenneth and Virginia Dyer; and her sons, Donald Strobel and Michael David Strobel.

Family was at the center of Pauline’s life, and there was nothing she was more proud of. She was extremely involved in the lives of her children, spending countless hours making sure they got to their activities and had every opportunity she could provide. She especially loved having her family together at Thanksgiving and Christmas, when a full house was exactly how she wanted it.

Pauline and Cliff also opened their hearts and home to countless foster children for more than 25 years. Fostering was a true passion for Pauline. At a time when Montgomery County maintained restrictive policies preventing foster families from adopting children placed in their care, Pauline helped pave the way for change. Pauline and Cliff ultimately had the joy of adopting four of their foster children, Lisa, Scott, Sean, and Ashleigh. Each adoption ceremony was a celebration of love and another chapter in the family Pauline treasured above all else.

Pauline worked for Montgomery County Public Schools for approximately 20 years as a health room technician at Farmland Elementary School, retiring in 2008.

Those who knew Pauline knew her as sincere, genuine, and kind, with a great sense of humor and a healthy dose of sarcasm. She was not afraid to speak her mind and could usually find a way to make people laugh while doing it. In her free time, Pauline enjoyed reading, attendingauctions, eating out with Cliff, and traveling. She particularly enjoyed trips to Ocean City, Maryland, and Florida.

Pauline’s life was defined by her devotion to family, both the family she was born into and the family she and Cliff built together. Her home and heart always had room for more, and the family she leaves behind is her greatest legacy.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 12:30 to 2:00 pm at Stauffer Funeral Home in Frederick, Maryland, with a funeral service immediately following. Pauline will then be interred at Brownsville Heights Cemetery, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Rohrersville, Maryland 21779, following the service.
