With profound sadness and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Pernell Robert Byrd, who left us far too soon on July 20, 2026. Pernell was born on August 11, 1964, in Bethesda, Maryland, and though his time with us ended just short of his 62nd birthday, his life was marked by creativity, generosity, and a steadfast devotion to those he loved.

Pernell’s early days in Maryland shaped a man of warmth, determination, and resourcefulness. He attended Einstein High School, where he began cultivating the talents and passions that would define him for the rest of his life. Whether exploring ideas through drawing or bringing order and color to spaces, Pernell’s talent for interior design and DIY projects transformed every environment he touched, making each one more beautiful and welcoming.

Professionally, Pernell embraced a fulfilling career in management, with a focus on bars, hotels, guest, and customer service. He took pride in his work, embodying the values of hospitality, kindness, and respect for all those he served. For Pernell, every guest was a friend, and every colleague, a partner in creating memorable experiences.

Pernell’s creativity flourished in many areas. He was a gifted artist, expressing himself through drawing; a passionate gardener and landscaper, coaxing color and life from the earth; and a chef whose skill and inventiveness brought friends and family together around countless tables. No gathering was ever complete without Pernell’s special touch—whether it was party planning that left every guest amazed or culinary wonders that warmed the heart as much as the appetite.

Above all, Pernell lived for the bonds of family. His memory will be honored and treasured by his loving siblings: Gregory, Grayling, Mark Byrd and Eunice Byrd, Bonnie Green, Vivian Peyton, Robin Ford, Lajuan Jackson, Ellen Jones, and Katrina Jones. He is also survived by 16 nieces, 8 nephews, and many, many cousins who loved him dearly. His love for them was unwavering and profound—a pillar of strength and a source of laughter and comfort throughout the years.

Pernell’s joyous spirit—his creativity, warmth, and devotion—leave an enduring legacy in the lives of all who knew him. His home was always filled with music, laughter, beauty, and love. He will be missed beyond words, remembered in every drawing, every blossoming garden, every well-planned celebration, and every act of kindness inspired by his example.

Though his journey here has ended, Pernell Robert Byrd’s spirit lives on—etched in the hearts of his family, and carried forward in the beautiful memories they will hold forever.
