Peter George Sartory

Peter George Sartory, 70, of Mount Airy, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025, at his home with his loving family at his side.

Born on May 22, 1955 in Hollis Queens, NY, he was the son of the late Peter Robert and Joan Ann (O’Brien) Sartory. Peter was the husband of Diane Elizabeth Sartory, his wife of 51 years.

Born and raised in Massapequa, NY, Peter was the oldest of five in an Irish Catholic family. Like every other boy in the 60’s he earned money by cutting lawns in the summer, raking leaves in the fall, shoveling snow in the winter, delivering newspapers, and he would caddy at a nearby golf course. He graduated from Berner High School in Massapequa Park, NY where he was an excellent football player, earning a football scholarship to Wagner College on Staten Island. Peter married his High School sweetheart. They had 4 children and in 1992 relocated to Maryland where he worked as an automobile mechanic for 25 years. Living in Gaithersburg for the first 4 years, they then decided to buy a house in Mt. Airy, MD. He always said it was the best thing he ever did. He loved his home. He had a beautiful rose garden that he would sometimes pick bouquets and deliver them to some of his neighbors. He loved to BBQ and swim in his pool because spending time in his yard with his family was truly his greatest joy in life.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his 4 children; Michele (Bryan) Bower, Shannon (Jason) Holmes, Kyle (Emily) Sartory, and Kelsey (Justin) Ostrofsky. These 4 children provided him with 12 wonderful grandchildren. He is also survived by his 3 brothers; John (Susan) Sartory, James (Donna) Sartory, and Matthew (Christine) Sartory; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Joan Sartory, and his sister, Nancy Headley.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 14, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy, MD 21771.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025, at 11:00AM at St. Michael Catholic Church at Poplar Springs, 1125 St. Michael’s Rd., Mount Airy, MD 21771. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Mount Airy.
