Philip R. Dorsey, 83, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Saturday, July 12, 2025.

Born February 8, 1942, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Grafton Day Dorsey and Louise McCracken Dorsey. Surviving are his loving wife Darlene, son Cliff Dorsey (Lisa) and daughter Holly Jackson (Kevin). Survived and much loved by grandchildren Josh, Derek, Craig, and Sheridan.

He retired from Montgomery County Government in 1989. Served in the U.S. Army 1961-1964 in Munich, Germany and was extended in tour due to the Berlin Crisis. Past Commander VFW Post 10076 and Life Member. Served as District 7 VFW Commander and State Chief of Staff.

Phil served over fifty years in the American Legion. Served as Post Commander and was awarded Honorary Life Membership in Gold Star Post 191 in 1994. Served as Western MD District Commander 1999-2000. Manager for Post 191 over four years and served on many committees. In 2010 he was elected Department Treasurer for the American Legion. In 2015 he started through the chairs and became Department Commander in 2019, serving two terms.

Phil received 32nd Degree in the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry in April 1988. Member of Philanthropic Lodge 169 New Market, MD and Valley of Frederick Orient and Valley of Baltimore Orient of Maryland.

In 2020, Phil was honored by being inducted into the Mount Airy Hall of Fame.

Phil loved keeping his cars spotless and maintaining his lovely lawn. He loved the Baltimore Ravens and was a permanent seat owner. He loved taking his grandsons to the games. Had so much love for his many dogs through the years and will be missed by his Sophie.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM on Saturday, August 2, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd, Mt. Airy, MD 21771, where services will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Gold Star Post 191, Mount Airy, MD.
