Raymond George Henry

June 29, 1963 — September 28, 2025

Ijamsville

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond George Henry, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, on September 28, 2025. He passed peacefully at his home in Ijamsville, MD surrounded by family after battling declining health over the last year due to ALS. Ray spent a lifetime caring for the needs of his family and friends and also for the public as a first responder for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.

He was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 29, 1963 to parents Michael and Carol Henry. He spent most of his childhood in Oceanside, NY along with his sister, Lauren Henry. He attended Temple Avodah where he received his Bar Mitzvah in 1976. His family moved to Gaithersburg MD in 1977 where he attended Wootton High School and graduated in 1981. He joined the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department after high school and also worked at Kensington and Sandy Spring Fire Departments before being hired by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue in 1988. During his career he was stationed in Kensington, Cabin John and at the Emergency Communications Center (ECC) where he eventually retired from his position as Captain of the Training Division for Fire and Rescue ECC in 2010.

Ray met his wife Jennifer while working at Suburban Hospital in 1987 and they were married in 1988. They enjoyed 37 years of marriage, filled with treasured memories of raising their sons, Christopher, Stephen, Daniel and Bradley Henry. Those years were filled with cherished family vacations, extended family gatherings and time spent cheering for football, soccer, lacrosse and ultimate frisbee teams. Ray and Jennifer's favorite road trip was to the Blue Ridge Mountains where they spent their honeymoon and returned frequently throughout the years. Ray attended and served, along with his family, at Mountain View Community Church in Frederick. Many Sunday afternoons were filled with cheering on his beloved Washington Redskins with family and friends.

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends, as our time with him was far too short. We rejoice that he is in heaven with the Lord and as believers we will one day be reunited again.

2 Corinthians 5:8: "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord"

Luke 23:43: "Jesus answered him, 'Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise'."

Ray is survived by his wife, Jennifer; children, Christopher and Rachel (dgt in law), Stephen and Amy (dgt in law), Daniel and Bradley Henry; grandchildren, Ethan and Evelyn Henry; parents Michael and Carol Henry and sister Lauren Henry.
