Reverend May Ruth Chapman

Rev. May Ruth Chapman, 70, of Brunswick, MD., formerly of Reading, PA, died Friday, April 20, 2007 at her home. She was the wife of the late James William Chapman.

Born May 6, 1936 in Reading, PA, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Ruth Amelia Dersch Heiser.

May served as a lay person in Christian Education for many years at Immanuel UCC, Shillington, PA. She graduated from Lancaster Theological Seminary and was ordained for ministry in 1987. Until her retirement in 2001, May served these church: Calvary Reformed UCC, Reading, PA, First UCC, Hamburg, PA., St. Mark's UCC, Reading, PA and St. Peter's UCC, Pine Grove, PA. In earlier years she worked as a custom interior decorator at Sears in Reading, PA. for more than five years. She loved art, music, story telling, dancing, writing, and sculpting. She had also served as a Girl Scout Leader for many years.

She is survived by her children Linda Beall and husband Bernard of Brunswick, MD and Daniel James Chapman and wife Patricia Ann of Hanover, MD, Seven grandchildren Joshua and wife Kerin, Aaron, Sarah and Daniel Beall and Melody, Julia and Josiah Chapman and her great granddaughter Abigail Beall, Two step-brothers Joel and David May also survive. She was preceded in death by a brother Robert Heiser and her step-mother Marian Heiser.

Services: Graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 25, 10:30 a.m., Laureldale Cemetery, 4631 Pottsville Pike, Reading, PA, with memorial service to follow at 12:00 noon from Wyomissing (Gouglersville), United Church of Christ, 2 Vermont Road, Reading, PA.
