Rev. Luther O. Brown

Rev. Luther O. Brown, 94 of Frederick, MD., died Sunday February 25, 2007 at the Northampton Manor Care Center. He was the husband of the late Ida Mae Snowden Brown his wife of 70 years.

Born February 5, 1913 in Bartonsville, MD., he was the son of the late George Washington and Elizabeth M. Diggs Brown.

In earlier years Rev. Brown was a poultry farmer, worked at Hamilton Meats, for the Donut Corp., and retired from Capitol Milk in 1978. After retirement he was self employed as a landscaper.

Rev. Brown was converted at an early age at Jackson Chapel Methodist Church in Bartonsville, Maryland. At Jackson he served as Superintendent of Sunday School and also served as Lay Speaker.

He has a BAP degree, (born again preacher) and his motto of which is been on the mountain top and we won't come down. Rev. Brown was called to pastor at Sugarloaf Mountain Christian Community Church on December 12, 1965. He was ordained by the Elders Order's in the United Council Christian Community Church of Maryland and vicinity on August 21, 1966, by the Board of Elders and the late Rev. George Baynard, President. Rev. Brown said I'll retire from Sugarloaf only when God retires me. When he says I'm retired, I'm retired. But I never saw in any book that Jesus retired. Rev. Brown touched the lives of many people, both young and old down through the years and he has been an inspiration to them all. The Lord has blessed his servant with a long, rich and fruitful ministry. Some of his favorite remarks were Everything is Beautiful and Still picking them up and setting them down. Rev. Brown and his wife were very generous people, always asking folks to their home to share food with them.

He is survived by seven children Mary Gordon and husband Seaven of Frederick, Franklin Brown and wife Eugenia of Walkersville, Velma Weedon and husband Herbert, Charles M. Brown and wife Debbie, Ward W. Brown and wife Aletha, Kevin M. Brown and Carlene Carr and husband James of Frederick. 31 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. 2 sisters Naomi Naylor and Alice Davis, daughter-in-law Theresa Brown, Many nieces and nephews also survive.

He will also be remembered by his adopted daughter Minister Janet Stubblefield and his special friends Rabbi Kosman, Judge Herbert Rollins, Rev. Lawrence Bryant, Rev. Sherman Mason and Rev. Carlton Talley.

He was preceded in death by two sons Luther Brown, Jr. and wife Ruth, Floyd E. Brown, Sr., two brothers Richard Diggs, Sr. and James Brown, Sr.

Visitation: Rev. Brown will lay in State at the Sugarloaf Mountain Christian Community Church, 2702 Old Hundred Road, Comus on Thursday, March 1, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Stauffer Funeral Home 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Friday, March 2, from 9 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services: Services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, March 3, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Pastor Jimmy Baldwin, Rev. Lawrence Bryant and Rev. Sherman Mason officiating.

Interment Fairview Cemetery

Pallbearers will be Brian Brown, Nadata Brown, Joseph Carr, Luther Weedon, Ward Brown, Jr. and Seaven Gordon, Jr.

Honorary bearers will be Tyrone Weedon, Sr., Chris Lucas, Duane Jenkins and Steven Brown
