Richard (Beans) James Cunningham, Sr.

Richard James Cunningham, Sr. , 92, of Mount Airy, Maryland, passed from this life on Monday, October 9, 2023 in Frederick, Maryland.

Born on August 31, 1931, in Mt. Pleasant, PA, he was the son of the late Clifford Cunningham and Eva Elizabeth (Kiel) Cunningham.

He was the beloved husband of Barbara Jo Farris Cunningham.

Richard retired as a Store Manager at Giant Food.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children: Linda Marie Shaw of Rockville, Maryland; Richard James Cunningham, Jr. (Terri) of Mount Airy, Maryland; Joni Kay Grigsby (Ray) of Selbyville, Delaware; and John Robert Cunningham (Toni) of Olney, Maryland; eleven grandchildren: Stacy Jaffe, Lisa Neale, Cindi Johnson, Heather Kirker, Scott Grigsby, Shannon Grigsby, Steven Grigsby, Christina Charles, Laura Yellin, Jennifer Fritz and Caitlin Cunningham; and twenty great grandchildren: Aden and Owen Jaffe; Faith, Paige and Hannah Neale; Kaylee, Aubrey and Brayden Johnson; Andrew, Ryan and Emily Kirker; Kayleigh and Addalyn Grigsby; Brooks, Brantley and Blakely Grigsby; Damien and Lila Charles; Leonie and Andreas Yellin.  He is also survived by one sister, Margaret Ruth and two brothers, Clifford and William Cunningham.

Richard was preceded in death by his sisters, Dolores Beauch and brothers, Robert and Jack Cunningham; and grand-daughter, Angela Santiago.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Stauffer Funeral Homes,  8 East Ridgeville in Mt. Airy, MD. 21771.  A celebration of Richard's life will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home.  Father Paul Sparklin will officiate. 

Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Mount Airy, MD.
