He was predeceased by his parents, Christopher and Muriel Brady; his former wife, Marlene McVeigh; his sister, Muriel; and his brothers, Milton and John Brady.

A native of Massachusetts, Dick graduated from Oliver Ames High School in 1953. He served for four years during the Korean conflict as a petty officer, FT5, aboard the USS Tortuga, beginning a lifetime defined by service to others.

Dick began his professional career with Household Finance Corporation, working in Baltimore and Raleigh, North Carolina, before serving as the company’s Frederick manager from 1962 to 1963. In 1964, he became manager of Weaver Brothers, Inc., and in 1966 joined Baker-Kefauver as a salesman, associate broker and Realtor.

He went on to build a distinguished career spanning more than five decades in Frederick-area real estate. Dick worked as a Realtor, broker and certified residential real estate appraiser, including serving as broker and vice president of Coldwell Banker Realty. He later continued his work as the owner of Brady Appraisal Services. During the final 20 years of his career, Jane joined him in the business as an appraiser, and together they served clients throughout Frederick County. His experience, integrity and deep knowledge of the community made him a trusted and respected professional. He was recognized as an Emeritus member of the Frederick County Board of Realtors.

Dick believed deeply in public service. Elected to the City of Frederick Board of Aldermen in 1973, he served during a consequential period in the city’s history. His work helped advance the Church Street parking garage, begin the process of placing downtown power lines underground and guide the city through the legislative aftermath of the devastating 1976 flood. Those efforts contributed to the preservation and revitalization of downtown Frederick in the decades that followed.

His commitment to public service continued later in life. In 2006, Dick was appointed to the Walkersville Planning Commission, where he served through 2024.

Dick’s civic involvement began well before he entered elected office. He joined the Frederick Jaycees in 1964 and held numerous leadership positions, including secretary, state director, vice president and, beginning in 1968, president. He also served as business manager of the organization’s official state magazine, “The Jouster,” and in 1970 was elected a United States Jaycees director representing Western Maryland. In recognition of his leadership and service, he was named the Jaycees’ Young Man of Frederick and later received the organization’s statewide Young Man honor.

Dick’s service reached across Frederick’s business, educational, recreational and charitable communities. He served as president of the Frederick County Board of Realtors, vice president of Frederick American Little League, chairman of the Citizens Advisory Committee for Developmental Planning to the Frederick County Board of Education and an instructor of real estate courses at Frederick Community College. He was also a former vice president of Goodwill Industries of Monocacy Valley, a member of the Frederick County Parks and Recreation Commission and chairman of the 1966 National AAU Women’s Track and Field Championships.

He was also involved with the Frederick County Landmarks Foundation, Frederick Tennis Club, B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 684 and the parent-teacher associations of Parkway and West Frederick schools. His many roles reflected a conviction he expressed early in his public life: community problems are ultimately people problems, and progress is possible when people have the support of their neighbors.

Outside his professional and civic life, Dick enjoyed golf and tennis, and valued the time it allowed him to spend with family and friends. He will be remembered for his humor, generosity, steady presence and genuine affection for the people in his life.
