Richard L. Lapen

April 10, 1967 — May 10, 2024

Mount Airy

Richard L. Lapen, 57, passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, May 10th 2024. Rich was born on April 11th 1967 in Dover, NJ to Richard R. Lapen and Carolyn Sue (Phillips) Carothers. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 30 years, Kimberly (Scarpine), daughters Abigail, Rhianna (Drew Jordre), and Meredith, his brothers Bruce (partner Dineen, daughters Walker McCall [Matthew Bodenhammer, son Milo] and Kiersten) and Jeffery (wife Christine [Mershimer], daughter Dylan). He was preceded in death by his father (1985) and nephew Harrison (2017).
Above all else, he was a dedicated husband and loving father who enjoyed nothing more than trying out any new recipe, grilling for all his girls at home, planning his next hockey game with Abbee, hitting the road for throttle therapy with Rhianna, or traveling up and down the East Coast for his next concert with Meredith. Rich and Kim enjoyed their own throttle therapy and have collected inumberable memories & adventures spanning back to their teenage years; anyone who knew them knew that they had unwavering dedication and love for each other.
He had a successful career in telecommunications spanning over 30 years, during which he worked in many facets in the industry, most recently as Regional Director at Rohde & Schwarz. Over the years, he created many relationships and has an endless global network.
Rich was a man of many talents, hobbies, and interests - never missing an opportunity to learn, a chance to jerry-rig a quick-fix around the house, a moment to teach someone whatever new skill he’d just taught himself, or an afternoon of shooting the ish around the patio. He was an avid guitar- & bassist, a die-hard Pittsburgh sports fan, an adventurer who knew no bounds, a craftsman, brewer of beers and backyard bonfires, and - in the most endearing of ways - a jokester. He could always be found behind the lens, snapping photos and capturing memories, as only he could do.
Rich leaves behind an absence even larger than his presence. Kim and the girls will miss him dearly, waffle breakfasts will forever have an empty seat at the table.
The family will receive friends and acquaintances to their home Saturday, May 18th from 1 to 5 pm. Lipton tea will be served in abundance. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to All Within My Hands.
