Richard Martorana

March 8, 1937 — June 1, 2025

Richard (Dick) Martorana, the youngest of 12 children, born on March 8, 1937 in Niles, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on June 1, 2025. He was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Agata Tina, who preceded him in death.

A proud veteran, he served honorably in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he went on to own and operate his own barber shop before retiring from a distinguished career at the Pentagon as a Federal Protection Officer. A devoted Catholic and a man of deep faith, Richard was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Hyattsville.

He was known for his great sense of humor which brought joy to everyone who knew him, and was deeply loved by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. He loved fishing with family and friends, gardening, and really enjoyed heading to the casinos with his two favorite sisters to play poker and hit the slots.

Richard is predeceased by his parents, Michael and Anna (Spano) Martorana; two brothers (Joseph and Russell), nine sisters (Mary, Santa, Josephine, Frances, Phyllis, Rose, Jackie, Helen, and Angie); and his beloved wife, Agata Tina Pulvirenti Martorana.

He is survived by his sons, Alfio Richard Martorana (Cassandra) Hagerstown, MD, Michael Angelo Martorana (Julie) Brunswick, MD, and his daughter, Nina Antoinette Martorana Weddle (Chris); his grandsons, Tyler Christopher Weddle (Beth); Jacob Riggleman, his granddaughters Giulia Christina Weddle and Kendel Riggleman; and his great granddaughter Lucia May Weddle; his sister-in-law Alfia (Frances) Pulvirenti Galipo, Capo d ’Orlando, Italy, brother-in-law Gaetano (Tommy) Pulvirenti, Mechanicsville, Maryland, and many nieces and nephews.

His life was marked by service, laughter, and love. He will be missed dearly by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church in Ijamsville, MD. Interment will be private.

Memorials can be made to Alzheimer’s Disease Research in lieu of flowers.
