Richard Henry Rand, Jr.

Richard Henry Rand Jr., age 79, a resident of Columbia, MD, died on June 11, 2025, at Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center.

Born December 15, 1945 in Presque Isle, ME, son of late Thelma Catharine Rand Zeigler Kephart and late Richard Henry Rand, Sr.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Julieta Ventic Rand.

He was a retired security guard and full-time girl dad. Richard dedicated the majority of his life raising his three girls and one granddaughter, to whom he loved dearly.

Richard was an active member of several religious organizations; St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Fatima Family, Couples for Christ, and Sanbayan.

He served as the Vice Principal of St. John's Sunday School program for over 10 years, and teacher for one year.

He volunteered as a DJ at the annual Fatima Family Christmas parties, known as DJ Rich. His cassava cake was also off the chain. In Couples for Christ, he was known as Santa 365. He would find furniture and other necessities and hand deliver it to teachers who just moved across the world from the Philippines to teach in Maryland. His generous personality, hard work, and dedication helped so many.

Richard is survived by three daughters; Catharine Amadea Curtis and her husband, Michael, Carmina Aryssa Rand and Myles, Chiara Alexis Rand and Zain; and one grandchild, Jovelyn Eve Williams, all of Columbia. He is also survived by five siblings, brothers, John Rand, Jim Rand, and Bill Rand; and sisters, Hope Rohrer and Peggy Shifler.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday June 19th, 2025 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro. The Rev. Msgr. Mariano Balbago will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown. The family receive friends from 11 to 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home in Boonsboro.
