Richard was born October 11, 1943 in Staten Island, N.Y. to Genevieve and Walter Shutter. The family moved to Bernardsville, N.J. when he was 5 years old.

Graduating from Bernards High School in 1962, he went immediately to work at Beneficial Management Corporation in Morristown, N.J. as an office boy delivering mail to all the departments. He was determined to succeed in life and went from office boy to advance in his career to SR Vice President of Marketing…a true feat of determination and perseverance.

He graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, N.J. in 1970 with a degree in Marketing after seven long years as an evening student while working during the day. He continued on toward his Masters Degree.

He met his beloved wife, Renay, at Beneficial and they married 4/13/68. They moved to his most loved lake Hopatcong home in 1970 eventually moving to Frederick Maryland in 2008 to be near daughter and family.

Richard had a passion for life and had many hobbies and interests… he was an avid sailboater, water skier, camper, serious tennis player, corvette lover and owner of three vintage corvettes - loved his convertible jeep and green vintage truck. A diehard NY Giant fan who wore his special attire for every game.

He joined the Army National Guard in 1964 and served for six years with an honorable discharge in 1970.

He is survived by his former spouse, Renay, son Richard Jr.; daughter Justine; son-in-law Jeff; grandson Luke; granddaughter Caroline. Survived also by his brother Walter and sister Sue Ann Shutter as well as other extended family in Staten Island, NY. He developed special friendships over the years with church friends in two states.

A small family memorial will be held privately by the family. Any thoughtful gifts in his memory can be sent to Brook Hill UMC in Frederick, Md. A church gathering is being planned to remember him in near future.
