Richard McDowell Violet, Jr., age 69, of Hagerstown, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.
Born on June 6, 1956 in Fort Meade, MD, he was the son of the late Richard McDowell Violet and Rosalie Virginia Gigeous Violet. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alvey and Naomi Gigeous of Boonsboro.
Although Richard was born with Cerebral Palsy, this never hindered him from enjoying his best life.
As a child, he could build anything with his Lincoln Logs, tinker toys and Legos. He was an avid collector of matchbox cars. He enjoyed the beach, Orioles baseball, and the Redskins. He loved Christmas, flowers and sitting in the sun. There was never a challenge that he wasn’t up for.
His infectious laugh, bright blue eyes and big smile gave rise to many lifelong friendships.
Rich is survived by his sisters, Tammy Manning of Keedysville, Lisa Ausherman of Chambersburg and Kim Gordon of Falling Waters. Additionally, he is survived by aunts, Genevieve Warrenfeltz of Boonsboro and Connie Slifer of Hagerstown; an uncle, Maynard Gigeous of Inwood, WV; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He had a special extended family with Unified Community Connections in Hagerstown.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at the Bast Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Tim May officiating. Burial will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery in Rohrersville, MD.
