Richard "Rick" Smith

Richard “Rick” Smith passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2021 peacefully at his home in Frederick, MD at the age of 71, after a courageous battle with neuroendocrine cancer. Born May 24, 1950 in Newton, Massachusetts, Rick was a lifelong New England Patriots fan who never wavered in his allegiance to Boston sports despite moving to Maryland to be closer to his children.

A configuration manager by trade, Rick was a devoted husband, dedicated father, and doting grandfather with a passion for classic rock music, whose idea of a perfect day included a trip to the casino to play penny slots followed by a heaping plate of fried whole belly clams. He was a proud Vietnam veteran who took advantage of every day he was given and always had a Dean Martin Christmas carol in his heart.

Rick is survived by his wife and love of his life Mary; his children Matthew, Lauren, and Kimberly and their spouses Samantha, Chip, and Dylan; his grandchildren Andre, James, and Amy; and his dog and best pal Dino.

Rick will be honored in a private immediate-family only gathering, with a memorial service for family and friends to be planned for 2022. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation or a charity of your choice.
