Richard William Weant, Sr.

Mr. Richard William Weant, Sr, 78, of Thurmont, died Saturday, March 17, 2007 at the University of Maryland Hospital after a short illness. He was the husband of 56 years to Alberta L. Smith Weant.

Born on August 8, 1928 in Fairfield, PA., he was the son of Clara L. Weant of Thurmont and the late Scott H. Weant. A graduate of Emmitsburg High School, Richard served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed throughout his years in the construction business until his retirement.

Richard was a past commander of the Thurmont Amvets Post 7, a member of the Thurmont American Legion Post 7, the Blue Ridge Sportsmen's Club and the South Mountain Rod and Gun Club.

Besides his wife and mother survivors include his daughter, Diane L. Eyler and husband Rick L. Of Thurmont; a son, Richard W. Weant, Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Thurmont; his loving grandchildren, Scott W. Sweeney, Lacey N. Eyler, Kara N. Eyler, Ian P. Weant, Sean M. Weant, and Colleen E. Weant all of Thurmont; brothers, Howard Weant of Taneytown, MD, Sirell (Skip) Weant, Sr., of Sabillasville, and Roger (Earl) Weant of Thurmont; a sister, Oneida Hogan presently residing in Thurmont, formerly of Dallas, TX. Several niece and nephews also survive him.


Visitation: The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 20, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 PM at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, MD.

Services: Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 2:00 PM in the Weller United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Broome officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Cemetery where serving as pallbearers will be: Scott Sweeney, Timothy Hogan, Craig Weant, John Portner, Bob Cariweather, Lyman Stambaugh, Terry Weant, Sirrell (Kip) Weant, Jr, and TJ Eiker. Honorary pallbearers will be Lacey Eyler, Kara Eyler, Ian Weant, Sean Weant, and Colleen Weant.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1819, Frederick, MD 21701.
