Richard Allen Creager, 91, loving husband of the late Evelyn V. Creager of Walkersville, MD, died on October 12, 2026 in his residence. Richard “Dick” was born on August 2, 1935 in Thurmont, MD, the oldest of two children. He was the son of the late Allen and Ruth Creager. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Creager, and is survived by his two sons Richard Creager Jr of Frederick and Robert Creager (Lisa) of Huntersville, NC and two grandchildren Jack and Lainey Creager also of NC. He is survived by his sister Tena Karinshak of Greencastle, PA as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and an aunt, Frances Kesselring of Greencastle.

As a youth, he worked at his family business Creager’s Flower Shop in Thurmont, MD. He graduated from Thurmont High School in the class of 1953 and the University of Maryland in 1958. He proudly served the country as a United States Marine from 1958 to 1964 and had a long career as a horticulturist at the United States Department of Agriculture at Fort Detrick, MD.

He enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and softball in his younger years. He took pride in his garden and enjoyed dressing up and creating unique experiences for Halloween trick-or-treaters in his neighborhood each year.

Richard and his wife enjoyed many hobbies together including fishing, gardening, listening to bluegrass, and travel. They enjoyed their trips to Alaska, Hawaii, Williamsburg, North Carolina and Ocean City MD. They were members of the Walkersville United Methodist Church in Walkersville, MD.

Family was always important to him and they hosted a 4th of July family reunion at their house every year with his unforgettable homemade ice cream and front row view of the Walkersville Carnival fireworks.

When his wife of 57 years passed in 2021, a memorial service was not held due to Covid restrictions. There will be a celebration of life for Richard and Evelyn at the Walkersville United Methodist Church (22 Main St., Walkersville, MD 21793) at 2:00pm on Friday October 30, 2026.
