Robert “Bobby” Lee Painter, 78, passed away at his home in Sharpsburg, MD, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, leaving his earthly struggles behind.
Born on February 6, 1947, in Leesburg, Virginia, he was the son of the late Azel A. Painter II and Evelyn Virginia (Cole) Painter.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Alicia Keyes; brothers, Larry A. Painter and Azel “Buddy” A. Painter III; nephew, Benjamin Ross Painter; and great-granddaughter, Catherine Elizabeth Hindman.
Though his formal education ended after the eighth grade, Bobby was a lifelong learner. His hands-on skills, sharp instincts, and practical wisdom made him the kind of man others turned to for advice, help, and know-how.
He dedicated over 30 years of service to Eastalco, where he worked as a skilled tradesman, expert forklift operator, and accomplished potline worker. His role in transforming raw materials into finished aluminum demanded precision, grit, and a tireless work ethic—qualities he embodied every day.
Bobby found joy in life’s simple pleasures: listening to country music, early mornings spent fishing, browsing for tools and treasures he might need “someday,” playing poker with friends, and watching classic westerns. He was a devoted fan of girls’ college softball and horse racing, catching a game or race every chance he got.
A true do-it-yourselfer, Bobby built a home from the ground up—creating not just a structure, but a lasting home for his family. In the late 1970s, he played a key role in founding the Potomac Valley Youth Association (PVYA), helping to establish youth sports programs that continue to enrich the lives of local children today.
He is survived by his daughter, Jodi, and her husband, Douglas Kenney; his son, Steven Scott Painter, and his wife, Debra; two nieces; three nephews; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Bobby’s life will be held at a later date.
