Robert Ray, 79, of Mount Airy, Maryland, passed from this life on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at  in Mount Airy, MD

Born on December 25, 1941, in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Donald  Ray and Erma  (Wright) Ray.

Bob graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in 1959.  One year later, he married his high school sweetheart, Frances Salsinger.

Bob had a long career as a Cartographer for the Federal Government working at Defense Mapping Agency in Washington, DC for 38 years.  In his retirement, he worked at Rattlewood Golf Course in Mt. Airy where he spent a lot of recreation and leisure time, too!

Bob married his high school sweetheart, Frances Salsinger, in June 1960.  Fran & Bob enjoyed time together playing golf, spending time with their daughter and her family, traveling to Siesta Key, FL for winters for many years after Bob’s retirement; annual beach trips with family and spending time with special friends on golf trips and other excursions.  They remained devoted to each other for over 61 years.  Fran never left his side during his illness and she and Jeanne were with him, holding his hands, when he died peacefully at home.  He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and friend to many!  He will be remembered most for his quiet, amiable nature and his sweet smile.

Survived by loving & devoted wife, Frances Lorraine Ray; one daughter, Jeanne Yaniga (Mark) and 4 amazing grandchildren, Matthew Yaniga (Jessica) - soon to be parents of Bob’s first precious great- grandchild due in December; Keith Yaniga (Catalina); Shaun Yaniga(Camden Sturm) and Jillian Yaniga (Mark Wise).
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am - noon on Thursday, Oct. 28 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd. Mount Airy, MD. 21771.
A celebration of Bob’s life will follow at 12:00pm.  Rev. Bill Maisch will officiate.
Interment Private.
Memorial donations may be made to Frederick Health Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
