Ronald (Ron) William Zecher

April 15, 1943 — December 4, 2023

Ronald (Ron) W. Zecher, 80, of Jefferson, Maryland, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 4, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Deborah Smith Zecher for 59 years, father of Tricia Zecher Wimsatt, and father-in-law to the late Clinton E. Wimsatt. Born on April 15, 1943, in Middletown, MD, he was the son of the late Harold and Sarah (Huffer) Zecher and brother of the late H. Richard Zecher. He is survived by his grandchildren, Jena Olivia Wimsatt and Maura Michelle Wimsatt, sister-in-laws, Anna Mae Zecher and Paula Smith Pearson, brother-in-law, Harvey A. Pearson and lifelong friend Ronnie Huffer.
Ron graduated from Middletown High School in 1961 and served in the Maryland National Guard from 1963-1969. He completed 45 years of service at Ingalls Lumber in Middletown, MD. Ron formerly served as commander and most recently on the board of directors at Middletown AMVETS Post 9. He was an active member of the Burkittsville Ruritan Club and especially enjoyed helping with the butchering and other fundraisers.
When he wasn’t sitting in his favorite recliner drinking a Miller Lite and feeding treats to his cat Sunny, he was working on his flourishing vegetable garden and perfectly mowed lawn. His family always looked forward to seeing the big smile on his face each time he delivered his fresh and delicious tomatoes, peppers, squash and more. Ron also had a passion for deer hunting and trout fishing. He would count down the days until his next trip to the cabin with Harvey. Ron loved nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. They adored his tales from the good ole days and will never forget his memories of being the most beloved White Star hot dog customer.
He was a loving, proud and dedicated husband, father,  father-in-law, grandfather and son. Ron touched many hearts with his kindness, selflessness and dedication to creating positive change in the community; he will be dearly missed.
