Rosalie Carmella Komes

Rosalie Carmella (Agliolo) Komes, 88, of Frederick, Maryland, died peacefully at her home on September 16, 2026.

Family and relationships were everything to Rose. When she was with you, she made you feel like the only person in the world. Warm and hospitable, kind and generous with others, whether you were old friends or someone new, she had a smile and conversation to share. Simply put, she made everyone feel at home in her presence.

Born in Omaha, Nebraska on December 7, 1937, her family moved to San Francisco during WWII, where she graduated proudly from Presentation High School. There, she married J. Michael Komes, and they moved to Florida in the 1960s with Bechtel Power Corporation. They moved together six more times, recreating homes up and down the East Coast. Rose finally settled in Frederick for the final 22 years of her life.

Rose’s greatest joy was as a mother to her four daughters, “The Komes Girls,” and Nana to her beloved eight grandchildren. Her love of travel led to a career as a travel agent for AAA Travel. Whether she trekked to visit family and friends or wandered the globe, she loved visiting new places, learning about other cultures, and helping others fulfill their dreams exploring the world. She was a proud partner in Flora Springs Wine Company with her former husband and in-laws, the Komes family.

A spiritually rich woman and devout Roman Catholic, she was active at St. Rose of Lima (Gaithersburg) and St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Churches. Rose was a passionate volunteer and philanthropist, sharing her time and talents with the Bechtel Wives Club, Shady Grove Pregnancy Center, Homewood Assisted Living, and serving as an Election Judge for years with the Montgomery and Frederick County Board of Elections.

Rose is survived by her four daughters and their husbands, Michelle and Steve Dolge, of Washington, DC; Jeannine and Dave Ross, of Ijamsville, Maryland; Lisa and Curt Myers, of Tuscarora, Maryland; and Nadine and Scott McIntosh, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her eight grandchildren Kyle Myers, Keenan Myers, Jackson Dolge, Tucker Ross, Peter McIntosh, Zoe Dolge, Hayley Ross and Mark McIntosh; her brother Sebastian (Carol) Agliolo of Sparks, Nevada and sister Joanne (Carol) Arens of Auburn, California ; and her brothers- and sisters- in-law John (Carrie) Komes and Julie (Patrick) Garvey, of St. Helena, California. She is predeceased by her parents, Rosario and Lucy (Gagliano) Agliolo; her former husband and friend, J. Michael Komes; her in-laws, Jerome W. and Flora (Cabral) Komes; her precious granddaughter, Brittany Ross; and her beloved nephews, C. Philip Arens, Kirk Arens, and Otto Komes.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at 12pm at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Frederick, Maryland. Committal will be held privately at the Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery in Emmitsburg, Maryland. 

Donations may be made in Rose’s memory to Shady Grove Pregnancy Center or World Vision.
