Ocean Pines

Rose Ann Lawrence, of Ocean Pines, Maryland, entered eternal rest on December 26, 2025. She was born in Garden City, Kansas on October 2, 1938, to August and Otilla Dater. After graduating from Garden City Community College, she relocated to the Washington D.C. area to take an administrative position with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Later in her career she worked as vice president of a residential property management company. In 1960, she married James Bridges (JB) Lawrence, III. They lived in Silver Spring, Maryland for over 40 years.

Rose Ann and JB raised three sons and then retired in Ocean Pines, Maryland 22 years ago. Her lifelong hobbies included playing golf, daily walks, reading and playing cards. Evening card games with house guests brought her great joy.

Rose Ann was raised by German immigrants in Southwest Kansas. Her strong work ethic, and Catholic faith gave her incredible strength as a wife, mother and role model for her family to keep them safe, healthy, and on the right path.

Rose Ann is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James Bridges Lawrence, III. She is survived by her brother, Eddie Dater, her sister, Leona Dater, three sons, their wives, eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Barry and Lisa Lawrence and their daughters Kelly (Jacob) and son Grayson Spencer, Lindsay (Damian) and son Miles Malagari; Don and Susan Lawrence and their children Joseph and Christine; and Rod and Lisa Lawrence and their sons, Jack (Karoline), Ryan, Carter, and Tyler.

Rose Ann was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.

A celebration of both Rose Ann and JB’s lives will be held in the spring, details forthcoming.
