Listen to Obituary

Roy Thurston Tyler, 94, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2026. He was born on October 20, 1931, in Clifton Forge, Virginia, to Obie Thurston Tyler and Grace Delilian Ford Tyler.

Roy lived a life defined by love, dedication, and family. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished his family above all else. His kindness, steady presence, and devotion to those he loved will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

On May 15, 1959, Roy married the love of his life, Charlotte M. Tyler, beginning a marriage and partnership that lasted throughout his life.

Roy proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his military service, he built a career as a mechanic, a profession that reflected his patience, skill, and ability to fix just about anything. He was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for and caring for his family.

Throughout his life, Roy called Clifton Forge, Virginia, Kensington, Maryland, and Mount Airy, Maryland, home. Wherever he lived, his greatest joy remained the people closest to him.

Roy is survived by his beloved wife, Charlotte M. Tyler; his daughters, Lynda Davis and Marjorie Fiske; his grandchildren, John Davis, Leesa Schartman, Trevor Davis, and Carl Fiske; and his eleven great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.

Roy leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a legacy of love that will continue through the generations of his family. Though he will be deeply missed, the love he gave so freely will remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM on Tuesday, September 15, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.

Rest peacefully, Roy. Your love, strength, and memory will live on through your family.
