Roy Lee Whitehouse of Frederick, Maryland, passed peacefully from this life on June 17, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Born on July 15, 1939, to Henry A. and Jewell D. Whitehouse of Morrow and Prairie Grove, Arkansas, he is survived by his wife, Jenice Ann Whitehouse; they were married for 66 years. He is also survived by daughter Leigh-Ann Reichard (Steven) of Middletown, Maryland, and son John Vance Whitehouse (Melissa) of Walkersville, Maryland; six grandchildren: Allison (Chris), David, Faith (Edwin), and Grace Reichard and Leah and Ruth Whitehouse; a brother, William Loyd (Bud) of Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma; and a sister, Lena B. Womack of Prairie Grove.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by brothers Kenneth S. of Stafford, Kansas, and Ray D. of Prairie Grove; and by sister Anna Marie, who died in infancy.

Roy's formal education included having graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, and he held a Masters in Business Administration from Syracuse University's Whitman School of Management, in Syracuse, New York. He was also a resident graduate of the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and the Congressional Operations Institute on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. He also took military-specific logistics courses at Fort Lee, Virginia, and Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Roy served 26 years in the U.S. Army and retired with the rank of Colonel. During his military career, Roy's assignments included having served in Vietnam as the chief logistician for the 25th Infantry Division's Medical Battalion and two assignments in Germany. One of those assignments was as an Inspector General for a major command in Europe (7th Medical Command). He commanded the 93rd Evacuation Hospital (Mobile) at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, which included a training airlift deployment within the U.S. Following military retirement, he was employed by the PHP Healthcare Corporation, where he rose to the position of Vice President of Administrative Services.

Roy had been a member of various Baptist churches in the U.S. and Germany during his military career and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Frederick for many years. In those churches, he served at various times as a deacon, a trustee, and a Sunday School teacher, and chaired various committees. He chaired the committee that provided for the First Baptist Church of Frederick in building and occupying new facilities on Bowers Road when the downtown Frederick location on Dill Avenue became pressed for parking space and visibility. His principles for realizing a fulfilling/meaningful life were hard work, integrity, discipline, and education while walking in submission under the umbrella-like control and protection of God.

One of Roy’s favorite Bible Scriptures was 1 John 3:24, which reads: “Those who obey his (God’s) commands live in him and he in them.”

He enjoyed his family, members of his church family, music (gospel music in particular), football, volleyball, gardening, backyard bird watching, and travel.
