Ruby V. Marsteller

Ruby V. Marsteller , 94, of Frederick, passed from this life on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Heartfields At Frederick. She was the wife of the late Herbert H. Marsteller who died in 2010.

Born on November 16, 1928, in Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Reba Booth Hylton.

Ruby went back to school at age 39; earned her Bachelor Degree at 50 and her Doctorate at 65 years old. She worked as a counselor in the Olney area in the1980's

She was a member of the Mt. Airy Baptist Church where she was a "Prayer Warrior" and also, while her health allowed, taught a weekly Bible Class at Heartfields.

For Ruby, her family always came first and she loved cooking for them.   

She is survived by two sons: Kenneth Marsteller and wife Radean of Mt. Airy, and James Marsteller and wife Wanda of Ohio; 2 grandchildren: Kenneth Marsteller, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Illinois and Shannon Durham and husband  Phillip of Huntingtown, MD; a great granddaughter, Makenna Durham; as well as a sister, Joanne Fisher of Rocky Mount, VA, a brother Lew Hylton and wife Cherie of Raleigh, NC, and a brother-in-law Steve Alonso of New Jersey. Ruby was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Alonso.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Thursday, October 26, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, MD 21771.

A celebration of Ruby's life will take place at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 27, 2023, at Mt. Airy Baptist Church, 1402 N. Main Street in Mt. Airy. Her Pastor Joshua Vogt will officiate.  Interment will be at 2:30 in Reliance Cemetery in  Middletown, VA.
