Ruth Grimes McKinney

Ruth Grimes McKinney of Frederick, MD, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

Born on March 25, 1938, in Lewistown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Ira Staley Grimes and Wilma Burrier Grimes. Ruth was a life long devoted member of the Lewistown United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John G. Grimes and James S. Grimes; and her sister, Alverda Roach and husband, Donald.

She is survived by her brother, Bob Grimes and wife, Carolyn, of Falling Waters, WV; two sisters-in-law, Connie Grimes of Dallas, TX, and Elsie Grimes of Frederick; five nieces, Tammy Schubel, Terree Long (John Ketterman), Lynn Smith and husband John, Sheryl Clouse, and Dawn McDowell and her husband John; two nephews, John Grimes and wife Darlene, and Robert Roach and his companion Connie.

She also is survived by seven great-nephews, Sean (who spent her last four nights in a chair beside her bed), Rusty, Eric, Doug, Ben, Will, and Jason; four great-nieces, Randi, Cassey, Taylor, and Danielle; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.

Ruth graduated from Frederick High School in 1956. She was a Electronic Specialist for 29 years with Frederick Electronics. Later,she worked at a few nursing homes in the Frederick area. She loved to crochet and made hundreds of crochet baby hats for the Frederick Memorial Hospital. Additionally, she enjoyed doing word search puzzles.

Ruth loved to travel and took many wonderful trips with the Barbara Rice Tour group, and she always roomed with her best friend, Barbara Summers.

Ruth will be greatly missed by all of her family and her many friends she made over the years.

She was a wonderful, caring person and was dearly loved by all who knew her.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Monday, March 30, 2026 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD, with a celebration of Ruth's life to begin at 12:00 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor Mark Claiborne, Sr.

Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, MD. Serving as pall bearers will be John Grimes, Sean Schubel, Russell Long IV, Joseph Ketterman Sr., Joseph Ketterman Jr., and D.J. Kemp.
