Sajan (Saj) Souri Moozhikkattu, 47, of Frederick, MD, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 11th, 2026.

Born on November 10th, 1978 in Philadelphia, PA, Saj was the beloved son of Xavier Moozhikkattu and Mercy Moozhikkattu (nee Kakkanattu). Throughout his life, Saj was known for his deep love and devotion to his family and friends, his quick sense of humor, his larger than life energy, and, of course, his unwavering love for all things Philadelphia. Saj had a welcoming spirit and a true gift for making people feel at ease. He could walk into a room where he knew no one and somehow leave having made several new friends. He brought people together, loved them wholeheartedly, and left an unforgettable mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Like his father, Saj pursued a career in Engineering. He started his academic pursuits at Penn State, and thereafter obtained his Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering and his Masters degree in Engineering Management, both from Drexel University. While at Drexel, Saj became a member of the Gamma Chapter of Iota Nu Delta, where he remained an active participant until his passing.

Saj was an incredibly hard worker. He started in the Operations Leadership Development Program and through his dedication and commitment, he worked in all business areas of Lockheed Martin. He ended his career as a deeply respected and accomplished program manager.

Saj was a devoted husband to Puja Moozhikkattu (nee Narang) and a loving father to Millie, Layla, and Serene. Family was incredibly important to him, and some of his most joyous moments were spent playing video games with Millie, reading bedtime stories with Layla, going to the arcade with Serene, solving escape rooms together as a family, and playing fetch with his canine companions Bruno and Juno.

He carried with him a deep love for the city where he was born and the teams he grew up cheering for-the Flyers, the 76ers, the Phillies, and, of course, the E-A-G-L-E-S. Go Birds! Whether celebrating a big win, debating a play, or simply talking sports with friends and family, Saj’s passion for Philadelphia was unmistakable.

Sports were one of the many ways Saj connected with people; he was an avid basketball player, having played in the DVSC league, which was originally started by his father Xavier. For Saj, basketball was as much about the people as it was the game. Tournaments and pick-up games became opportunities to compete, laugh, talk trash, and spend time with friends-often turning an ordinary game into a memorable event.

Saj is survived by his wife Puja, his daughters Millie, Layla, and Serene, his parents Xavier and Mercy Moozhikkattu, cousin Sneha George and her daughter Amala, as well as many other beloved family and friends. His passing has left a profound void in the lives of all who knew and loved him.

Although Saj’s passing was unexpected, those who knew him will remember far more than the sadness of his absence. They will remember his laughter, his unmistakable voice, his quick wit, his love of Philadelphia sports, his competitiveness on the basketball court, and most of all, the way he made people feel welcome and loved. His life was a gift to his family, his friends, and everyone fortunate enough to know him.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2026 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick. 

A Funeral Mass will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville, MD 21754. Celebrant will be Father Peter Kiamo-oh. Private Interment to follow.
