Sandra "Sandy" Kay (Martignon) Johnson

Sandra "Sandy" Kay (Martignon) Johnson, a cherished member of her family and community, passed away on December 3, 2025, at the age of 73 in Frederick, MD.

Born on August 24, 1952, in Norway, MI, she was the daughter of the late Robert Adolf and Betty Ann (VanLyssel) Martignon.

Sandy built a successful career as an accountant for 17 years with Grimes Trucking, followed by another 17 years serving as a medical clerk at the Village of Frederick Health Hospital. Her commitment to her profession was complemented by her educational achievement; she was very proud of having earned her associate's degree, an accomplishment that highlighted her passion for learning and personal development.

Beyond her professional life, Sandy found joy in a variety of hobbies and interests. She loved visiting Lake Superior and treasured moments spent at home in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She was particularly known for her talent in knitting, dedicating time to Care Wear knitting hats for newborn babies that were donated to the hospital, which she generously donated to the hospital. Sandy also enjoyed singing and participated in Bible study, gatherings with friends and coworkers, shopping, and reading physical books. In her later years, she developed a fondness for watching NFL Green Bay Packers games-a spirited endeavor she enthusiastic embraced with her trademark cheer of "Go Pack! Go!" After retiring, she humorously became an “excellent napper”, something she playfully mastered over a span of two weeks after her recent retirement.

Sandy was deeply involved in her community and church life. She worked with the Girl Scouts for over 20 years, leaving a lasting impact on countless young lives. As a member of South End Baptist Church, she served tirelessly for over 30 years as the church clerk and was part of the Christian Women's Club for more than 15 years. Her contributions included being a significant member of the prayer shawl committee, choir, and Missions group, as well as taking part in care wear and senior groups within the church community. Sandy's life was marked by her dedication to her work, her family, and her numerous contributions to the community.

She is survived by two daughters, Carrie Johnson-Smith and her husband Jason, and Beth Conroy and her husband Jerry, and her brother, Fr. John Martignon.

A celebration of Sandra's life journey will take place from 10 am-2 pm on January 26, 2026, at South End Baptist Church, 506 Carrollton Drive, Frederick, MD 21701. Luncheon to follow. Please feel free to come, join in her celebration at her church home.

Interment will be at a later date at Norway Township Cemetery in Norway, MI.
