Sandra B. Thorowgood

Sandra B. Thorowgood, 81, of Frederick, Maryland, passed from this life on Monday, March 9, 2026, at Frederick Health Hospital.

Born on October 28, 1944, in Brockton, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late John M. Birnie and Irma M. (Beal) Birnie.

For the past 25 years she made her home in Frederick, where she built a life centered on family, friendship, and quiet strength. Sandra was known for her warmth, kindness, and the steady way she cared for the people around her. She loved spending time outdoors, especially gardening, and found joy in nurturing the things she planted and watching them grow. Her generous heart and welcoming nature made people feel comfortable and cared for, and her love for her family was always at the center of her life.

She is survived by her children, Richard G. Wood II and his wife Margarita of Los Angeles, California; Adam Wood and his wife Monica of Haymarket, Virginia; Thomas K. Thorowgood of Huntingtown, Maryland; Margie L. Greathouse and her husband Michael of Prince Frederick, Maryland; and Sherie A. King and her husband Edward of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, as well as several beloved grandchildren.

She will be remembered for her gentle spirit and the lasting impact she had on those who knew and loved her.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, with a memorial service to begin at 11:00 am. Rev Tim May will officiate.

Private interment will be held at Cheltenham Veteran's Cemetery at a later date.
