With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sergeant Blain Alexander Gatrell, 22, of Hagerstown, Maryland, who left us far too soon on August 9, 2025.
Blain proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant through his dedication, strength, and unshakable sense of duty. He was a committed soldier, a loyal friend, and a bright light to everyone who knew him.
Born on October 19, 2002, Blain was full of life from the start. He was funny, sarcastic in the best way, and had a rare combination of intelligence and charm that made him unforgettable. Whether he was cracking a joke, building the latest LEGO masterpiece, diving into a Star Wars marathon, or exploring the outdoors, Blain approached everything he loved with passion and heart.
Blain is survived by his loving wife, Brianna Delauney, his mother Sara Carpenter, his two younger brothers, Michael Carpenter and Zackery Carpenter, his stepfather Allen Carpenter, and his best friend Azariah Villaman. He will also be deeply missed by extended family, friends, fellow soldiers, and all those who had the honor of knowing him.
To know Blain was to laugh a little louder, smile a little brighter, and love a little deeper. His spirit, his humor, and his love will remain with us always.
A private memorial service will be held to honor his life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the Air and Space Museum.
Rest easy, Blain. We will carry you with us-always.
