Shirley Edwards

Shirley Ann Edwards, 77, of Frederick, Maryland, was called home on Thursday, July 21, 2022.

Born on November 11, 1944, in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley Johnson and Gertrude Eleanor Johnson.

As a devout Christian, she found strength in her faith. Shirley was always putting others before herself and served many communities throughout her life.

She was a passionate caregiver and a generous person who made a difference for so many. After a successful career as a cosmetologist, she impacted student’s lives as a teacher’s assistant and school bus driver.  Shirley’s love for life was contagious.  Always the light in the room, she loved to sing, dance, and rejoice with those around her.

She is survived by daughter, Deborah Butler of Frederick, MD; son, Donald Eugene Edwards, Jr. (Jennifer) of Ocala, FL; sisters, Ruth Wunsch, Betty Saunders; brother, Benjamin Pruitt, of Fredericksburg, VA; grandchildren, Brooke Butler Perry (Ryan), Faith Butler, Blaine Butler-Goff (Michael), Destiny Edwards, Leigha Greene (Kevin).
She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sister, Janet Bishop, sister-in-law, Mary Pruitt, and son-in-law, Kenneth Butler.

Shirley’s life will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 4:00 pm at Stauffer Funeral Home 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702 with a reception following.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made in her name  to The Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org).
