Stella Nydia Morris

Stella Nydia Morris, age 95, of Mount Airy, MD passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on April 9, 2026, at Kline Hospice House, of natural causes.

She was born on January 31,1931, in Ashville, NC, to Lydia Allen Early and Willaim Amerse Early. She grew up in Shelby, NC and graduated from Shelby High School. She was married to William Morris in 1953 and remained devoted to him until his passing in 2008.

An avid birdwatcher and gardener, she loved taking walks with friends, but most of all she savored her cups of coffee with lots of cream! In her younger years she volunteered at her church and local nursing homes. While living in Martinsburg, she crocheted baby blankets for the local hospital.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, William Morris and her 5 siblings. She is survived by her daughters, Sara Swetcharnik (William), Mary LeGore (Rohn), and Billie LaPlace (Mark); her grandchildren Nicole Crouse (Travis), Eric LeGore (Elizabeth), Bryan LaPlaca, and Jenna LaPlaca (Michael Tolerico); and her great-grandchildren Aliva Crouse and David LeGore. She will be fondly remembered by her dear friends Betty Mask and Beverly Dawkins, as well as her neighbors at Dry Run Commons and in Mount Airy.

Nydia was a founding member of Mount Airy Baptist Church and, after moving to WV, attended Baker Heights Baptist Church.Everyone loved her sense of humor and were always amazed by her organization skills.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Mema loved well and was deeply loved. Her family brought her great joy. She will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.
