Stephen Jeffrey Wisner

Mr. Stephen J. Wisner also known as “Steve, Boot, Jeff and often by many other names but his favorite name being Pappy,” age 67 of Frederick, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Frederick Health Hospital after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife Connie Myers Wisner who he has been married to for 48 years. Born on August 15, 1957, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Yvonne (Bonnie) May and John E. Wisner. Steve is preceded in death by his son Stephen A. Wisner, and sister Kathy Kennaman, brother-in-law Robert K. Myers and in-laws Robert W and Helen V. Myers.

Steve graduated from Frederick High School in the class of 1975, offering his teachers and parents a big sigh of relief that he wouldn’t be returning the following year. He began his career delivering the Frederick News Post and Washington Post while riding his bike every morning before and after school. Additionally, in his younger years he worked for Porter’s Grill, Capello’s (where he developed his dislike for cats), hanging drywall in Montgomery County, and Watson’s Ice Plant. Before he began his career as a part-time firefighter he worked for many years for Floyd L Culler Inc., a general contractor in Frederick.

Steve was extremely active in the Frederick Community serving as a volunteer firefighter for United Fire Company, Citizens Truck Company, and more recently Walkersville Fire Company. He volunteered more than 50 years and was still a volunteer up until the time of his death. He proudly served Frederick County as a career firefighter for 28 years before his retirement in 2013. During this time, he served many different roles such as a board member, finance committee, grant committee, Standards Committee, Special Projects and worked on multiple city, county and state committees earning many awards through the years. He represented Frederick county’s extraction team winning at a State level and went on to represent Maryland at a national level. His most cherished achievement was being elected to serve as Chief of United Fire company where he was able to serve beside his brother John Wisner who was president of the organization. If you asked him, he would say that his biggest award was just being able to serve the community for the people that he loved.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. He never got tired of hearing them say “Hi Pappy!” or having ice cream with them. In addition to his family, he enjoyed playing cards with his friends from the firehouse, his Thursday and Saturday night group of friends, Resort Poker League on the Eastern Shore, and spent many hours on his computer playing to “hone his skills.” When the words “Deal-em” and “put on a pot” was shouted you can bet he was there!

In addition to his wife, Steve is also survived by his son Robert W. Wisner and wife Sara, his siblings John E. Wisner, Jr and wife Thoma, Donald F. Wisner and wife Hwa Chin, Rhonda L. Wisner, Cindy MacMullen and husband Robert, his grandchildren Serena Q. Folk and son-in-law Anthony, Ethan Z. Wisner and daughter-in-law Alexis, Jacob A. Wisner and Emma G. Matthews, brother-in-law Richard W. Myers and wife Elizabeth, sisters-in law Carol T. Norwood, and Star Myers and many nieces and nephews.
