Born on January 20, 1952 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Charles Rooney and Dolores (Makepeace) Rooney.
She is survived by her three children Brian Jefferson of Brunswick, MD, Stacy Ellyson (Rob) of Matthews, NC, and Jodi Lucia (Mark) of Mt. Airy, MD; seven grandchildren, Micayla Jefferson, Jack Ellyson, Elise Ellyson, Esme Ellyson, Morgan Lucia, Makenzie Lucia and Jase Lucia; two brothers, Pat Rooney of Winter Garden, FL, John Rooney (Robin) of Windermere, FL and a sister, Jane Rooney (Jo) of Winter Garden, FL; a niece Kristina Bryant and nephew John J. Rooney.
Susan was a founding member of the Mother Seton Parish Sodality of Our Lady and very active in the church for many years serving on the Welcoming Committee, working Bingo, teaching religious education, playing in the bell choir and planning the Sodality retreats. She loved being part of the church community and cherished the great friends she made through all of her church activities.
She was a devoted Mom to her children and Mom-Mom to her grandchildren. She was always active in her kids activities, such as the Girl Scout Cookie Mom, the Swim Team manager and volunteering in her children’s elementary school PTA. Susan loved the annual vacations to Bethany Beach with her children and friends, and she continued those experiences to her grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10:00AM to 11:00AM on Monday, April 22, 2024 at Mother Seton Parish, 19951 Father Hurley Blvd, in Germantown, Maryland.
A celebration of Susan's life journey will take place at 11:00 am on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Mother Seton Parish, 19951 Father Hurley Blvd, in Germantown, MD. Rev. Lee Fangmeyer will officiate.
Memorial donations may be made to Frederick Health Hospice.
