Theodore Timothy Leber, Jr., three days before his 89th birthday, entered Heaven on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at Sunrise Senior Living in Frederick, Maryland.
Ted was the son of the late Theodore, Sr. and Coral Leber. He grew up in Illinois and was a graduate of Northwestern University. While at Northwestern, Ted met his future wife. Michele was features editor of the school newspaper at Northwestern, while Ted was the sports editor. They shared a desk and got to know each other while learning their craft. They were married on February 20, 1960 in Appleton, Wisconsin and celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2020 before Michele passed on January 1, 2021.
Ted is survived by sons, Tim (wife Kathy), and Todd; sister Dawn Lienhardt; grandchildren Brent, Bryce (wife Georgiana), Maddie, Kenan, Kenzie, and Avery; nieces Penny and T’Keyah; and nephews Tim, Mark, Cu, Anthony, and Josh.
Ted served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years and retired as a Captain in 1989. His tour of duty included assignments in Point Mugu, California; Sangley Point, Philippines; Bremerton, Washington; Newport, Rhode Island; Norfolk, Virginia; Williamsburg, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. His most rewarding assignment was serving as Commanding Officer of the Navy Cargo Handling and Port Group in Williamsburg, Virginia for three years. After retiring from the Navy in 1989, Ted served as a financial advisor for young military families.
Ted and Michele lived in Virginia with their family since 1970, the last 40 years in Arlington, until Ted moved to Sunrise Senior Living in Frederick last fall.
He was an avid fan of Northwestern sports teams and all sports teams in Washington, D.C. He enjoyed surfing the internet (especially Youtube) on his tablet; reading about finances and investments; attending shows with Michele at the Signature Theatre in Arlington; and traveling to spend time with his family. Ted also enjoyed the buffet at Golden Corral, hot dogs from Costco, and burgers from Five Guys.
Services for Ted will be private. Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home in Frederick.
We are extremely grateful to God for the wonderful care and love provided by everyone at Sunrise Senior Living, where Ted lived since last October. In addition, we are thankful for everyone at Frederick Health Hospice for their support and prayers during the last several months. You’re all angels, and we thank God for all of you!
