Mr. Thomas Edward Smith, 86, of Mt. Airy, MD passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at his home. He was the loving husband of Barbara Flynn Smith for 56 years.
Born April 2, 1925 in Pleasant Shade, TN he was the son of the late Willie Ray and Ethel Sloan Smith.
Mr. Smith was a teacher for Montgomery County Schools. He was a member of the American Rhododendron Society. He enjoyed gardening, golfing and woodworking. Tom was also an avid camper.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter Susan Lord and husband Dawson of Mt. Airy; sons Evan E. Smith and wife Dianne of Michigan and Bryan W. Smith and wife Katherine of Woodstock, MD; brothers William and Jack Smith of TN; sister Dorothy Allison of TN and 6 grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his brothers Doyle and Ray Smith and sisters Martha Pippin and Jessie Marquand.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 10AM at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy.
