Timothy LaMont Wims, 67, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, August 20th, 2026. He was born on August 20th, 1959, in Frederick, Maryland, to the late Earl Wims Jr. and Arlene Wims.

Tim was raised and educated in Frederick County and graduated from Frederick High School in 1977. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he honorably served from 1977 to 1979 before receiving his honorable discharge.

Tim was an avid sports fan and a devoted supporter of his hometown teams, especially the Washington Commanders (formerly the Washington Redskins), Baltimore Orioles, and Washington Wizards. His love of sports extended far beyond being a fan. He played football throughout all four years of high school and later played semi-professional football with the Frederick Falcons. He also enjoyed playing volleyball and softball.

Tim had a special passion for youth sports and dedicated many years to coaching and mentoring young people. He coached football and basketball and spent 12 years coaching at Monocacy Middle School basketball. His influence went beyond the sidelines, as he encouraged, supported, and inspired the young people he encountered.

Those who knew Tim will remember him for his genuine spirit and his ability to make everyone feel welcome. He loved being surrounded by family and friends and was often the life of the party. His warmth, humor, generosity, and love for others made him someone who could bring people together wherever he went. On most Sundays, you could find Tim at Jackson United Methodist Church, where he was a member. After church, he could often be found in the yard, proudly taking care of his home and earning his well-loved title of “Lawn Ranger.” He would then prepare Sunday dinner for his family, bringing everyone together around the table to share a meal, laughter, and love. These simple Sunday traditions reflected the man Tim was-a man who cherished his faith, his home, and, most of all, his family.

Tim leaves behind his beloved wife, Sheila Wims; his children, Bethany, Lamont, and Morgan; his mother, Arlene Wims; and his siblings, Tamara Pierce, Reginald Neal, and Tracey Wims. His devoted friend, Rev. Doc. David “Fly” Evans. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Sherry Wims and Darrell Wims; and by his father, Earl Wims.

Tim’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family will be remembered always. He leaves a lasting legacy of love, laughter, friendship, and support that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, colleagues, and the many young people whose lives he touched.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026 at Jackson Chapel United Methodist Church.

A celebration of Timothy's life journey will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 28th at Jackson Chapel United Methodist Church, 5609 Ballenger Creek Pike in Frederick. Rev. Rex R. Bowens Sr. will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will be held at Ebenezer New Horizon Cemetery in Ijamsville with military honors.
