Verna Mae Brown

Verna Mae Brown, 91, of Mt. Airy passed from this life on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Tranquility At Fredericktowne. She was the wife of the late David D. Brown who died in 2015.

Born on June 9, 1932 in Roda, Virginia she was the daughter of the late James and Audrey J. Jordan Henderson.

Verna was a telephone operator for C&P Telephone in Mt. Airy and at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney. She also worked part-time at the Bon-Ton in Frederick. Verna was a long time volunteer with the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

She enjoyed going on cruises with her husband, tending flowers in her yard, having her hair and nails done, trips to Rehoboth Beach, sitting on her front porch and spending time with her family.

Surviving are two children: Linda A. Fenton and husband DJ of Mt. Airy and David D. "Danny" Brown, Jr. and wife Mary of Frederick; four grandchildren: Monica A. Russell and husband Chris of New Market, Amy Sullivan and husband Mike of Frederick, Kerrie Brown of Middletown and Matthew D. Brown and wife Angie of Middletown; three great grandchildren: Riley Sullivan of Frederick, Lily Brown of Middletown and Sage Sullivan of Frederick; three siblings: William "Bill" Henderson and wife Adele of Woodbine, Peggy East and husband Tommy of Mt. Airy and Brice Henderson and wife Julie of Hendersonville, TN

The family will receive friends from 12-1 PM on Thursday, February 1, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgrville Blvd., Mt. Airy, MD where funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Mt. Airy.
