Virginia Marie Craig

Virginia Marie Craig, 99, of Mount Airy, MD, passed away at the Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy on January 20, 2026.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Craig, her son R. Joel Craig, brother Richard Brown, and two sisters, Roberta Iannello and Beatrice Spicer. She is survived by daughter Cynthia M. King, son Timothy J. Craig, grandchildren, Lara, Cara, Colleen, Bobby, Christie, and Michael,  great grandchildren, August, Brittan, McKenzie, Nathan, Morgan. Destinee, Maxwell, Zara, Avery, Kellan and Cora, and many nieces and nephews.

Virginia was born in Syracuse, NY in 1927 to Robert and Christine Brown. She attended Marywood University before starting a long teaching career. She married Robert Craig in 1951. They lived in upstate New York, New Jersey, and Central Maryland before settling into their dream home, a house in Mount Airy, MD, designed by her husband Bob. She loved her home and was always happy to entertain friends and family. Virginia remained there until the last week of her life, when she entered Kline Hospice House. She died there peacefully, after having several wonderful days of visits and phone calls from family and friends.

Virginia was  a devout Catholic, and parishioner of St. Ignatius Church for forty-five years. She attended weekly mass there until she was unable to drive. She then attended daily mass on television. Her faith was one of the most important aspects of her life, and something that sustained her throughout a long, blessed life.

Virginia loved to travel. Whether it be a trip to Ireland, houseboat cruises on the Chesapeake Bay, frequent trips back to upstate New York, or various later life excursions with her daughter Cindy, Virginia cherished every adventure.

Crafting also brought many hours of happiness to Virginia's life. It started as projects with her sisters and expanded to her children and others. Her annual Christmas angels were highly anticipated.

Virginia also enjoyed keeping up with current events. Always the teacher, she was smart, engaging, kind, and caring.

Virginia was a rare light in this world, a light that burns bright in those that loved her.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Country Church, 8817 Urbana Church Rd., Frederick, MD 21704.
