Wendy Lynn Kells

November 26, 1950 — October 12, 2025

Rohrersville

Wendy Lynn (Richardson) Kells, 74, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Doey’s House in Hagerstown.

Wendy was born on November 26, 1950, to Ruby Anne (Thompson) and George Richardson, Sr., in Takoma Park, MD, where she was raised. Wendy attended the local area high school, graduating in 1968. She became a nurse’s aide and worked at Leland Memorial Hospital in Hyattsville, MD.

In August of 1967, she met her one true love, Robert H. Kells, when she came into the Hot Shop’s Mighty Mo, one evening for a soda with her girlfriend. Wendy and Robert fell in love and were wed on December 23, 1967. They moved in together and lived in the upstairs of her mother’s house before Robert was drafted into the Navy in 1970. Robert took Wendy with him when he was stationed in San Diego, CA, before going off to war. Wendy and Robert kept in touch with letters until Robert’s return from war when he was honorably discharged in 1974.

In April of 1978, Wendy gave birth to her first son, Robert D. Kells, who gave the couple a run for their money. This prompted both Wendy and Robert to want to come back home to be around their parents for support as well allowing their new son to know his grandparents. In July of 1979, Wendy gave birth to her second son, Michael V. Kells, expanding their family once again. With two little boys Wendy knew it was the right decision to come home and enlisted the support of both Robert’s mom and Wendy’s mom to help raise Robert and Michael.

After many years of trying to have another child, in August of 1985, Wendy was blessed with a little angel, Sarah M. Kells. Sarah was super special and brought all new challenges to the Kells’ household. Sarah was born with a hole in her heart and needed many surgeries which took Wendy and her mother all over the country. Sarah was eventually able to come home where she met her two brothers, Robert and Michael. Of course, the two brothers welcomed her with open arms but never fully understood just how special and delicate Sarah was and never treated her as such. Now the real drama for Wendy and her husband, Robert, started and Sarah was never left behind in any of the adventures the boys embarked on. This was anything from riding four-wheelers, swimming in the pool, or playing basketball in the driveway. Wendy’s unwavering love for her children, specifically her daughter, she tried her hardest to protect Sarah from her crazy brothers. But day-by-day, and hour-by-hour this turned her hair grey early. Wendy and Robert never gave up on their family and always found a way to ensure that they had the best care, love and life. Wendy cared for Sarah, her two rambunctious boys, and assisted her husband, Robert, with running the family business.

The Kells family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the nursing staff at South Mountain Rehabilitation Center in Boonsboro, as well as, Meritus Medical Center, and Doey’s House both in Hagerstown. The care that was provided to Wendy was phenomenal and the family will be forever grateful for the support and kindness shown daily.

Wendy is survived by her husband, Robert H. Kells; sons, Robert (Jeanifer) Kells and Michael Kells; daughter, Sarah Kells; brother-in-law, Randy (Linda) Kells; sister-in-law, Linda (Jim) Cermak; and many, many, extended family and friends that she claimed over the years to be her own sons and daughters.

Wendy was preceded in death by her mother and father; brother, Bill Richardson; stepfather, Perry Schroeder; and in-laws, Robert (Paulene) Kells.

The Kells Family has planned a private (invitation only) Celebration of Life for Wendy.

Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home and Stauffer Crematory, Inc. is assisting the Kells family with arrangements and cremation services. www.staufferfuneralhome.com.
