Frederick

William Lloyd Ewing (“Wid,” “Wil”), born January 19, 1965, passed away peacefully at his home in Frederick, Maryland, surrounded by family on Friday, December 26, 2025.

Wil was the beloved husband of Lauriel Ewing, with whom he shared a deep love of fishing, cooking and anything by the water. He was previously married to Kim Ewing, the devoted mother of his children.

He was a proud father to three children: Jamie Tobie (Brian Tobie, parents to Jack), William Ewing (Hannah Ewing, parents to Athena), and Sam Ewing (engaged to Ericka Martin). His joy multiplied when he became a grandfather, and he treasured every moment with his grandson Jack and newborn granddaughter Athena.

Wil was the cherished son of Jackie Crews and Caleb Ewing Jr. (Mary Jane Ewing). He is survived by his siblings: Caleb Ewing III, Abbie Wharton (Kemper Wharton), and Mike Ewing (Stacy Ewing, formerly married to Jacque Ewing). He was predeceased by his nephew Caleb Wharton and Step-Father John Crews and is lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Caleb Ewing Fitzgerald (Lindsey), John Ewing, Conrad Wharton (Dottie and sons Kemper and Bo), Libba O’Reilly (Bobby), Mikey Ewing, and Harrison Ewing. He was loved by Marilyn Wellman aka “Grandmare” and Lauriel’s family and friends.

Wil possessed a naturally magnetic personality, drawing people to him. He embraced life fully, yet always maintained his own peaceful rhythm. A gentle giant, standing over 6'3", he was known for his quiet nature except when passionately cheering for his children-he was always their most vocal and unwavering supporter from the sidelines. Despite his battle, he maintained his handsome looks, with a full head of hair and his signature striking blue eyes, until his passing.

His greatest loves were simple yet profound: spending time with “Laur,” fishing, following NASCAR and football, and supporting his children as they pursued their passions in horses, football, and lacrosse. He delighted in watching them grow into adulthood and build families of their own.

Beyond his family, Wil was a dedicated coach and mentor. He left a lasting imprint on youth sports in Washington County, where countless young athletes benefited from his guidance. Many of his players went on to achieve success at the high school and collegiate levels, carrying forward the lessons Wil instilled in them.

Wil will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and coach-someone whose presence deeply enriched the lives of all who knew him.
