William Layman Crowl, Sr.

William Layman Crowl, Sr., known to many as Bill, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at the age of 76. 

He was born on September 23, 1946, in Hagerstown, Maryland to the late Rose Ann Moser Warrenfeltz and Harry Martin Crowl, Sr.
 
Bill attended Boonsboro High School and graduated with the Class of 1964. After completing his education, he proudly served his country as a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam and awarded a Bronze Star. Bill's dedication and commitment to his military service were commendable, and his contributions will always be remembered.
 
For many years, Bill worked for the Callas Contractors, Inc. Outside of work, Bill had a great passion for racing. He served as the team manager of Levi Crowl Racing and wholeheartedly enjoyed spending time at the shop. Saturday nights at the track were always eagerly anticipated by Bill. His love for racing was infectious, and he shared this passion with those around him, especially his grandson.
 
Bill will be deeply missed by his loving family. He leaves behind two sons, William "Bill" L. Crowl, II and companion, Trisha, of Clear Spring, Maryland, and Michael M. Crowl and wife, Kate, of Hagerstown. He was a proud grandfather to Molli Crowl, Levi M. Crowl, Anna Crowl, Madelyn Crowl, and Gianna L. Crowl; as well as a great-grandson, Xander C. Sheppard. In addition to his sons and grandchildren, Bill is also survived by his first cousin, Vaughn Crowl and family ; his niece, Lou Ann Jones and husband, Jeri; and his dear friend, Vanessa McPherson.
 
He was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph Crowl, Harry Crowl Jr., Ronald Crowl; and sisters, Grace Oakes, Anna Clarke, Marilyn Rudolph, Iola Jacobs, Elaine McKnight Whipp and Patsy Ensor. 
 
A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 13th, 2023 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro The following day, a 10:30 a.m. August 14th, 2023 graveside service will be held at Brownsville Heights Cemetery with Pastor Lou Ann Jones officiating.
